  PRODUCTION CONTROL

Production Control The Production Control area is part of the Operations and Services group at University Technology Services. This area is staffed by seven full time Data Coordinators on work shifts covering the 24 hour/ 7 days per week operation of this area. Using the CA-7 Production Control System and TSO/ISPF an estimated three hundred to eight hundred production batch jobs are scheduled and processed through the University's mainframe computer system during each production cycle (daily after 5:00 PM until 8:00 AM the following weekday including weekends).
A description of typical duties conducted in this area include:

  1. Scheduling of production batch jobs on the mainframe computer in accordance to specifications defined by programming staff and administrative user offices' requests. This includes systems such as financial accounting, accounts receivable, payroll, student records, student financial aid, and the libraries' NOTIS system.
  2. Coordinating with user offices and programming staff on availability of mainframe system resources in setting up the production workload for the evening.
  3. Definition of new batch job applications and revision of existing applications coming from programming staff to production status in accordance with University Technology Services' Standards and Procedures.
  4. Submission and monitoring of production batch jobs on the mainframe computer system.
  5. Resolution of problems associated with processing production batch jobs. This includes coordinating with user offices, programming staff and operations personnel in the resolution process.
  6. Quality control and verification of production batch jobs to insure accuracy of output data.
  7. Provide support in a back-up capacity for the OnDemand system, Scanning, and Data Entry areas.
  8. Other duties handled by the staff include mail delivery within University Technology Services and Tape rotation functions for the tape library
Production Job requests can be emailed to Production Control to PRODCON@gwm.sc.edu  before 4:30 PM Monday through Friday. These can also be faxed directly to the Production Control area at (803) 777-1499 before 4:30 PM in order to be scheduled to run that evening. Job requests scheduled through IMS must be in place by 2:00 PM to be scheduled to run that evening.
