-         Checkpoint will be here Thursday (23 Aug) to make a presentation.

-         Will be scanning network to get OS fingerprint, on Monday and Tuesday, 6-7 August.

-         Blocking web servers on campus, from off-campus access, unless verified as legitimate public websites; cutoff is 20 August.

-         Question about personal web servers - it's up to the department.

-         After web servers, CSD will begin the same process for ftp severs, etc.

-         CSD will also begin isolating servers when misbehavior is detected, i.e. when one gets infected and begins to execute virus or worm.

-         New firewall structure implements two checkpoint firewalls between two layer 7 switches; very scalable - to increase capacity, add firewalls.

-         Student subnets are logically separated, not physically separated.

-         NetReg was briefly reviewed - the first time a student connects to the network in the dorm, he is redirected to VIP, where he registers his computer; he also views the acceptable use policy.

-         Demonstrated the firewall log viewer; users will have read-only permission - but should also check the Read only checkbox when entering program.

-         Security Task Force meets 16 Aug.
