Network Managers Meeting Minutes

Ronnie Wilkinson opened the meeting with announcements:

• Campus VPN has arrived and is currently being installed.

• Netware 6 is in the NDS Tree.
• Draft Security Policy IT 1.06 was distributed, which will replace the following existing policies: IT 1.05, IT 1.06, IT 1.07 and ACAD 7.01. Send feedback to Dr. Hogue’s office.
• Nominations are being taken for Vice Chair of the Network Managers Meetings; email nominations to Ronnie or Vickie.
• Vickie assumes the Chair position in January.
• There will be no meeting in January 2003; the next meeting will be the third Thursday in February.

Ken Sallenger reported that there have been some SMTP problems, but no details yet.

Joe Dance has taken over as System Administrator of the Videoconference Bridge; contact him regarding use of the bridge.

Ronnie Wilkinson made a presentation on networking with Linux.

§ It was also noted that KNOPPIX offers a bootable CD containing a collection of GNU/Linux software, which could be useful where someone wanted to get familiar with Linux, without dedicating a system to it, or setting up a system with multiple operating systems. The knoppix distribution can be ordered or downloaded. See www.knoppix.com for details.
